Dreame X40 Ultra vs ECOVACS Deebot X8 Pro Omni: Spinning Pads or Roller Mop?

Quick Verdict
Choose the ECOVACS Deebot X8 Pro Omni for mostly hard floors where roller-mop scrubbing matters most. Choose the Dreame X40 Ultra for homes with rugs, because it can leave its mop pads at the dock and lift an extendable side brush. X8 lists 18,000Pa against X40’s 12,000Pa, but the mopping design is the bigger day-to-day difference.
Before comparing offers, note that on October 18, 2026 both official US stores showed these exact models as sold out: Dreame listed both X40 Ultra colors as sold out, and ECOVACS pointed X8 Pro Omni shoppers to a newer model. | Trade-off | X40 Ultra: TechRadar observations | X8 Pro Omni: TechRadar and Tom’s Guide observations |
|---|---|---|
| Pro 1 | Thorough vacuuming and mopping; best the reviewer had seen at the time. | Excellent suction and arguably the best edge cleaning the TechRadar reviewer had seen. |
| Pro 2 | Excellent mapping and obstacle avoidance. | Roller mop judged very effective and does not push dirt around. |
| Pro 3 | Leaves mop pads behind for deeper carpet, and recognizes pets and pet droppings to keep clear. | Strong cereal and kitty-litter pickup in Tom’s Guide’s scored tests. |
| Con 1 | Base-station auto-empty suction was weak. | Middling pet-hair pickup in Tom’s Guide testing (72.5 combined score). |

Rugs Decide This Comparison
X40 Ultra is designed to drop its mop pads at the dock for carpet work and can lift them 10.5mm otherwise. Dreame still recommends using the app to avoid medium- and high-pile carpets longer than 3mm when mopping. X8 Pro Omni’s roller lifts 10mm, and its Carpet First routine vacuums carpets before any mopping; the official page does not list mop removal.
If plush rugs sit between hard-floor rooms, X40’s mop removal gives you the simplest dry-carpet routine. If your home is mostly sealed hard floor with a few low-pile mats, X8’s carpet modes may be enough. In either case, set no-mop zones and check the first run.
Roller Mop vs Spinning Pads on Hard Floors
ECOVACS describes the X8 roller as continuously rinsed by 16 nozzles while dirty water is scraped off, so the robot is not dragging the same dirty surface across the floor. Both reviewers credited the roller with strong mopping. Dreame’s spinning pads instead swing outward to reach corners and under furniture edges. Kitchens with sticky spills favour the roller’s design; corner-heavy layouts make the swinging pads more useful.
Pet Hair and Edges
X8 has the higher suction rating, but Tom’s Guide scored its pet-hair pickup as middling. TechRadar noted that X40 recognizes pets and pet droppings and keeps clear of them; it did not publish a pet-hair score. Dreame lists its TriCut anti-tangle brush for X40 as a separate purchase, while ECOVACS includes ZeroTangle 2.0 on X8. Edge debris is addressed differently: X40 extends and lifts its side brush; X8 extends its side brush at internal corners and its roller along edges.
Docks, Noise and Running Costs
Both docks auto-empty into bags, wash mops with hot water, dry them and add cleaning solution automatically. X8 lists 75 dBA for dust collection, and TechRadar called its emptying noisy; TechRadar found X40’s auto-empty suction weak. Both reviewers flagged consumable costs. X8’s dock measures 350 × 477 × 533mm with its base; Dreame does not list X40 dock dimensions on the product page.
Availability and Warranty Checks
On October 18, 2026 Dreame’s US store showed X40 Ultra sold out in both colors with a 3-year warranty badge, and ECOVACS’ US store showed X8 Pro Omni sold out. The X8 page did not state a warranty term. A marketplace listing may carry different condition or warranty terms from the official store; confirm both before buying.
Which Should You Buy?
- Rugs between hard-floor rooms: X40 Ultra, for mop removal and a liftable side brush.
- Mostly hard floors and sticky kitchens: X8 Pro Omni, for its continuously rinsed roller mop.
- Heavy shedding: neither is a clear winner in the cited tests; budget for TriCut on X40, or accept X8’s middling pet-hair score.
- Talk-to-your-robot control: X8 Pro Omni has the built-in YIKO-GPT assistant; X40 relies on third-party assistants.
- Buying now: both were sold out on their official US stores on October 18, 2026. Check condition, seller and warranty on any listing.
