Dreame L40 Ultra vs ECOVACS Deebot T30S: Rugs, Hair and Edge Cleaning
Choose the original Dreame L40 Ultra for mop removal on rugs and an extending side brush, or ECOVACS Deebot T30S for LiDAR mapping, hotter mop washing and an included anti-tangle brush.

Research date Oct 18, 2026
Quick Verdict
Choose the ECOVACS Deebot T30S if you want LiDAR mapping, 158°F mop washing and an anti-tangle main brush in the box. Choose the original Dreame L40 Ultra if your rugs call for leaving the mops at the dock and your edges collect dry debris that an extending side brush can reach. Both are rated at 11,000Pa, so suction is not the deciding spec here.
This page compares the original Dreame L40 Ultra (not L40 Ultra Gen 2 or L40s) with the standard ECOVACS Deebot T30S (not T30S Combo, Combo Complete or T30S AI). On October 18, 2026, Dreame’s own US product page listed the original L40 Ultra as sold out and pointed shoppers to Gen 2, a different model. Treat any L40 listing you find as a seller-specific offer and confirm the exact generation.

| Decision point | Original Dreame L40 Ultra | ECOVACS Deebot T30S | What it means at home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rated maximum suction | 11,000Pa (Dreame Lab) | 11,000Pa | Identical ratings; pickup differences come from brushes, airflow and navigation, not this number. |
| Navigation and obstacle sensing | Smart camera plus 3D structured light; avoids up to 100 object types (Dreame Lab) | LDS LiDAR mapping plus TrueDetect 3D 3.0 structured light | T30S does not list a camera; L40 pairs a camera with structured light. |
| Edge cleaning | Extendable side brush and MopExtend RoboSwing mop, up to 1.57 in (4cm) under furniture | TruEdge mop plate that extends toward walls and furniture legs | L40 extends both a brush and a mop; the T30S page centres edge reach on the mop. |
| Carpet strategy | Removes mops at the dock or lifts them 0.4 in (10.5mm); suggests avoiding pile longer than 3mm when mopping | Ultrasonic carpet detection; auto-lift mopping of 0.35 in | Mop removal is listed only for L40. Lift height alone does not make a rug safe for wet passes. |
| Hot-water mop washing | 149°F (65°C) | 158°F | Water temperature in the dock, not on your floor. |
| Anti-tangle main brush | TriCut brush sold separately | ZeroTangle V-shaped brush included | Budget for TriCut if you buy L40 for long hair. |
| Battery | 5,200mAh; up to 194 min vacuum + mop in Quiet mode | 5,200mAh; 290 min silent sweep, 200 min standard sweep + mop | Different test modes, so the minutes are not directly comparable. |
| Dust handling | 300mL robot box; 3.2L dock bag (up to 75 days, Dreame estimate) | 275mL robot box; 3L dock bag | Both auto-empty into a bag you replace. |
| Dock water tanks | 4.5L clean / 4L used | 4L clean / 3.5L dirty | Neither page lists a plumbed refill/drain kit for these versions. |
| Dock footprint | 340 × 456.7 × 590.5mm | 394 × 443 × 527.5mm | L40’s dock is taller; T30S is wider. |
| Voice control | Built-in voice commands plus Alexa, Siri and Google Home | YIKO voice assistant with three microphones, plus Alexa and Google Assistant | Both work by voice; T30S can also start vacuuming when you push the bumper with your foot. |

| Trade-off | L40 Ultra: TechRadar observations | Deebot T30S: Vacuum Wars and TechRadar observations |
|---|---|---|
| Pro 1 | Accurate, quick mapping and obstacle avoidance the reviewer ranked among the best. | Vacuum Wars measured airflow tied for the highest among the robots it had evaluated. |
| Pro 2 | Handled pet and human hair extremely well. | Strong debris pickup on both hard floors and carpets in Vacuum Wars testing. |
| Pro 3 | Cleared a dried soy sauce stain in three short passes. | TechRadar (T30S Combo, same robot) praised its mapping and edge cleaning. |
| Con 1 | Large dock that is hard to hide. | Below-average deep-carpet cleaning and only average crevice pickup (Vacuum Wars). |
| Con 2 | Pushed a small soft toy and rode over a glove in the obstacle trial. | Vacuum Wars found the hair-removal feature not very effective in its evaluation (it notes the combing works gradually). |
| Con 3 | Reviewer would not trust it to avoid pet waste or items under about two inches. | Foot control did not always respond, and some stains were not fully removed (TechRadar, Combo). |

Rugs: Mop Removal vs Mop Lifting
This is the clearest functional split. Dreame says the original L40 Ultra can remove its mops before vacuum-only work and can lift them 10.5mm, while its footnote recommends setting the app to avoid medium- and high-pile carpets longer than 3mm to keep them dry. The T30S page describes ultrasonic carpet detection and auto-lifting the mop plates, then switching to maximum suction; it does not list mop removal.
If your home has a large rug you want vacuumed often, mop removal gives you a cleaner routine: vacuum everything first, then mop hard floors. With a lifting-only design, plan no-mop zones around plush rugs and watch the first run. Lift height numbers are not a promise that a damp pad will never touch long pile.
Long Hair and Pets
On paper, T30S has the simpler box: its ZeroTangle V-shaped brush and front and rear comb-teeth arrays are included. Dreame lists the L40 TriCut anti-tangle brush as a separate purchase. That makes the out-of-box hair setup different even though both robots share the same suction rating.
Reviewer results complicate the paper advantage. TechRadar found L40 excellent with pet hair, while Vacuum Wars found the T30S hair-removal feature not very effective in its evaluation (it noted the combing is meant to work gradually over time). If shedding is your main problem, budget for the L40 accessory or expect some brush maintenance on T30S; do not choose on the anti-tangle label alone.
Edges, Corners and Low Furniture
L40 extends two different tools: a side brush for dry debris along baseboards and a mop that swings up to 4cm under low furniture. T30S’s TruEdge extends the mop plate and keeps it about 1mm from walls by ECOVACS’ description. If crumbs and pet hair collect in corners, the extending side brush is the more relevant feature; if sticky marks along cabinets bother you more, both robots address the wet side.
Docks, Stains and Smart Features
T30S washes mops at 158°F versus 149°F for L40, and both dry pads with hot air. Neither number describes floor temperature. Dreame notes that L40’s OmniDirt stain detection is off by default and active only in CleanGenius mode, and that Suction Boost is unavailable in quiet suction mode. ECOVACS says T30S Intelligent Deep Mopping customizes cleaning cycles based on how dirty the floor is. Check which features your preferred routine actually turns on.
Measure before you buy: L40’s dock stands 590.5mm tall, T30S’s 527.5mm, and both need room to lift out water tanks. Auto-emptying still means replacing dust bags; both brands sell them separately.
Availability, Generation and Warranty Checks
On October 18, 2026, Dreame’s US store showed the original L40 Ultra as sold out. Dreame’s US after-sales policy lists 3 years for a robot vacuum’s main body and base, 1 year for the battery pack and 1 month for consumables, matching the 3-Year Warranty badge on the L40 product page. The FAQ on that page still says one year, so confirm the term with Dreame or your seller before buying. The policy applies to Dreame’s official US site and official Amazon store; other sellers set their own warranty. The T30S product page did not state a warranty term.
ECOVACS sells several T30S versions (T30S, T30S Combo, Combo Complete and T30S AI). Specs on this page are for the standard T30S; the bundles and AI version can differ in accessories and features. Confirm the exact version before comparing offers.
Which Should You Buy?
- Big rugs you vacuum often: original L40 Ultra, for mop removal before vacuum-only runs. Confirm you are buying the original generation and check the seller’s warranty.
- Long hair without buying extras: T30S includes its anti-tangle brush; L40 needs TriCut purchased separately. Expect some brush cleaning either way.
- Mapping-first, mostly hard floors: T30S, for LiDAR mapping, hotter mop washing and Intelligent Deep Mopping.
- Corner debris and low sofas: L40, for its extending side brush and 4cm mop reach.
- Clutter, cables or pet accidents: neither reviewer evidence supports a fully hands-off promise. Clear the floor before scheduled runs.
